Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3/4 pound ground beef
  • 3/4 pound lean ground beef pounds extra lean ground beef (at least 90 percent lean)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plus 2 more tablespoons, use soft whole-wheat breadcrumbs)
  • 1 large egg (slightly beaten)
  • 1/2 cup green onions, very finely chopped
  • 3 large garlic clove, finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger root, finely grated
  • 3 tablespoon Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper (optional)
  • 1 medium lime (juice and zest from one medium lime)
  • Burger buns (split)
  • Lettuce leaves

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat grill to medium.

  • Step 2: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, green onion, garlic, cilantro, ginger root, Thai chili sauces, soy sauce salt pepper, lime juice and zest. Mix well. Lightly shape into 5 half-inch-thick patties.

  • Step 3: Cover and refrigerate the patties for 1 hour (no more than an hour, there's acid in the lime juice and will turn the meat white).

  • Step 4: Place burgers directly on greased grill grates and cook until instant read thermometer registers 160 degrees, about 7 to 8 minutes. Turn burgers once while grilling.

  • Step 5: Serve each burger with a lettuce leaf and bun.
