Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 pork hocks
  • 1 cup raw cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup raw turnip, diced
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon garlic salt
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 (19 ounce) can fava beans, drained and rinsed (any canned beans or lentils work well)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Place all ingredients, except fava beans, in a large stock pot.

  • Step 2: Cover with water and bring to a boil.

  • Step 3: Reduce heat and simmer, adding water as needed, until vegetables are tender.

  • Step 4: Remove hocks and set aside until cooled enough to handle.

  • Step 5: Add rinsed fava beans.

  • Step 6: Remove meat from the hocks and return to stock-pot.

  • Step 7: Taste and adjust seasoning.
