Step 1: Place sugar, star anise and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook for 7-10 minutes, or until syrupy.
Step 2: Let cool.
Step 3: Strain out the star anise. Return syrup to saucepan and add fruit.
Step 4: Poach over moderate heat until warmed through.
Step 5: Serve fruit with the syrup and whipped cream.
