Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 1/2 pounds stewing beef (cut in 1 1/2-inch cubes)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter (or margarine)
  • 1 1/2 pounds yellow onions (2 large onions, chopped)
  • 2 large cloves garlic (crushed)
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 can (13 3/4 ounce) beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 12 whole white onions (peeled)
  • 1/2 pound fresh sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard (Grey Poupon Country Dijon)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Shake beef in bag with flour, salt and pepper.

  • Step 2: In large skillet or Dutch oven, brown meat in butter. Add chopped onions, garlic, wine, broth, water, thyme and basil. Cover. Simmer 2 hours or until meat is tender.

  • Step 3: Add whole onions. Cook 15 minutes or until tender. Stir in mushrooms. Cook 10 minutes. Mix in mustard.

  • Step 4: Serve on bed of noodles if desired.
