Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • FOR THE LOAVES
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 6 ounces ground lamb
  • 6 ounces ground beef
  • Cooking spray
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • FOR THE SAUCE
  • 1 cup shredded cucumber (peeled)
  • 1/4 cup sliced red onion (vertically sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped mint
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 carton (8 ounce) fat-free yogurt (plain)
  • 4 pita bread (no pockets)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat the broiler.

  • Step 2: To prepare the loaves: combine first 8 ingredients (onion powder - ground beef. Divide mixture in half, form each half into a 6 x 3 inch loaf. Place each loaf on a broiler pan coated with cooking spray and broil 6-10 minutes on each side or until done. Sprinkle the loaves with red pepper and cut each loaf into 1/2 inch slices.

  • Step 3: To prepare sauce: place the cucumber and onion onto several layers of paper towels; cover with more paper towels and let stand for 5 minutes.

  • Step 4: Combine the cucumber mixture and the rest of the sauce ingredients (mint - yogurt).

  • Step 5: Divide meat slices evenly among the pitas; top each serving with 1/4 cup sauce.
