Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 cups milk (scalded and cooled to lukewarm)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)
  • FOR THE TOPPING
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds (we skipped the nuts)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large mixing bowl dissolve the yeast in the water (lukewarm - warm) and then add the next 4 ingredients (milk - eggs) and 3 cups of the flour. Beat until smooth and elastic. Stir in the 1/2 cup melted butter and beat until combined. Add remaining flour, beating until smooth. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until almost doubled.

  • Step 2: Stir down and turn into a butter jelly-roll pan (I use a roasting pan) 12 x 16 inches.

  • Step 3: Spread 3/4 cup melted butter over the dough, then sprinkle it evenly with a mixture of brown sugar, flour and almonds. Let rise for 30 minutes.

  • Step 4: Bake in a 375 degree f oven for 20 - 30 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Step 5: Cut into squares to serve.
