Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 (3 to 4 pound) whole chicken (cut in pieces)
  • 1/4 cup oil (salad oil)
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped (I used 1/2 cup dried onion with a little water added to simmer in)
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery (I used 1 teaspoon celery salt in place of the celery and salt in the recipe)
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

How to Make

  • Step 1: Brown chicken pieces slowly in salad oil and remove from skillet.

  • Step 2: In same skillet cook onion and celery just until tender, but not browned.

  • Step 3: Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 5 minutes.

  • Step 4: Place chicken in baking pan, and pour sauce over all pieces.

  • Step 5: Bake uncovered in 325 degree F oven, for approximately 1 hour.

  • Step 6: Baste with sauce after 30 minutes, and just before serving.
