Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 1/2 pounds fresh broccoli
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped yellow onion (finely chopped)
  • Nutmeg
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup grated swiss cheese

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 375F.

  • Step 2: Cut broccoli into 2-inch flowerettes.

  • Step 3: Cook broccoli in boiling salted water for about 5 minutes (until almost tender). Rinse under cold water. Drain well.

  • Step 4: Sauteā€š the onion in half the butter for about 3 minutes using a medium sauce pan.

  • Step 5: Add flour and stir constantly over low heat for 1 minute.

  • Step 6: Add milk while whisking constantly. Cook over high heat for about 5 minutes as the mixture thickens. Stir in the swiss cheese, salt, pepper and nutmeg.

  • Step 7: Coat the bottom of the casserole dish with sauce.

  • Step 8: Arrange the broccoli flowerettes over the sauce.

  • Step 9: Pour the remaining sauce over the broccoli.

  • Step 10: Combine the parmesan cheese and the bread crumbs.

  • Step 11: Sprinkle over the casserole.

  • Step 12: Melt the remaining half of the butter and sprinkle over the casserole.

  • Step 13: Bake, uncovered, for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned.
