Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 pounds ground round (steak)
  • 1 teaspoon oil (cooking oil)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped white onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot green chile poppers, minced
  • Black pepper (one dash)
  • 1/3 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups tomato sauce
  • 24 taco shells
  • Iceberg lettuce, shredded
  • Chopped tomato, optional
  • Shredded longhorn cheese, optional

How to Make

  • Step 1: Brown meat in oil. When thoroughly cooked, add the onion, seasonings, and tomato sauce and mix to make the filling. Simmer, covered, for 10 minutes.

  • Step 2: While you are making the filling, heat taco shells in a 200F oven.

  • Step 3: Fill hot shells with meat mixture, then top with shredded lettuce and finely chopped tomato.

  • Step 4: Sprinkle top with grated Longhorn cheese, if desired.
