Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon anise
  • 1 cup sesame seeds (lightly toasted)
  • 1 pound all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine the flour and the yeast, baking powder, spices and sesame.

  • Step 2: Dissolve the sugar and turmeric in the milk.

  • Step 3: Add the olive oil to the flour mixture and rub together or mix till the flour mixture is moistened.

  • Step 4: Add the milk and combine. Add more milk if needed.

  • Step 5: Transfer the dough to a bowl and let it rest overnight.

  • Step 6: Break small even-sized pieces of dough and either use a mold previously greased and floured or roll out into large 4 inch rounds, and decorate by hand.

  • Step 7: Bake in a preheated 350F for about 15 minutes or until golden.
