Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • 3 yellow onions (coarsely chopped)
  • 1 red bell pepper (chopped)
  • 3 cans (16 ounce) baked kidney beans
  • 2 cans (14 1/2 ounce) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounce) tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cups red wine (Chianti, Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon wine)
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce (Texas Pete hot pepper sauce)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (or Splenda)
  • 1 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 can (20 ounce) pineapple chunks
  • Jamaican jerk bitters (4 drops, or to taste, optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Brown beef in large skillet coated with spray over medium heat.

  • Step 2: Add pepper and onions and saute until vegetables are soft.

  • Step 3: Stir in beans, tomatoes, tomato paste, wine, hot pepper sauce, Worcestershire, chili powder, celery salt and pepper.

  • Step 4: Reduce heat to low and simmer 45 minutes, stirring often.

  • Step 5: Stir in pineapple chunks and bitters and heat through.
