Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1 carrot (grated)
  • 1 stalk celery (grated)
  • 2 teaspoons butter (they specify 1 knob)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil (extra virgin)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 6 bacon slices (rashers diced)
  • 1 whole red chili pepper (long, sliced)
  • 1 liter chicken stock
  • 1 liter passata (tomato)
  • 1 bunch fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 250 grams dry spaghetti (broken into pieces)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Sourdough bread (one loaf)
  • Parmesan cheese (for my lot I would use cheddar)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large heavy based fry pan, heat oil and add minced beef and bacon and cook for 5 or so minutes, breaking up any lumps, until nicely browed.

  • Step 2: Add onion, garlic, celery, bay leaves, chilli, salt and pepper and sauté for 3 to 5 minutes or until vegetables are softened.

  • Step 3: Pour in passata and stock and then add spaghetti and stir well and reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes or until pasta is al dente.

  • Step 4: Serve on slices of toasted sour dough bread topped which cheese.
