  • 3/4 cup shortening (butter-flavored)
  • 1 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup pecans, optional (or walnuts)

How to Make

  • Step 2: In mixer, cream shortening, brown sugar, milk and vanilla until creamy. Blend in egg.

  • Step 4: Stir in chocolate chips, and nuts if using.

  • Step 5: Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets.
