Step 1: Dumplings: Peel and core apples - leave whole.
Step 2: Make pie crust (Recipe #15751), or use you're favorite.
Step 3: Wrap apples in pie crust and put in 13x9x2 pan.
Step 4: Sauce: in pan bring sugar, water and spices to boil for 5 minutes. Add butter. Pour over apples.
Step 5: Bake 375 for 35 - 40 minutes.
Step 6: Baste occasionally while baking.
