Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 can (3-ounce) mushrooms (broiled, chopped mushrooms)
  • Milk
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • Freshly ground black pepper, a few grindings
  • 1 1/2 cups oatmeal (or soft bread crumbs)
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons catsup
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • Broiled mushroom crowns, optional
  • Pimiento strips, optional

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit.

  • Step 2: Drain chopped mushrooms and reserve liquid.

  • Step 3: Add enough milk to the mushroom liquid to make 1/2 cup.

  • Step 4: In a mixing bowl, combine liquid, egg, Worcestershire sauce, seasonings and oatmeal or breadcrumbs; let stand for 5 minutes.

  • Step 5: Add beef and chopped mushrooms; mix lightly but thoroughly.

  • Step 6: Shape into a loaf in a 13x9x2-inch baking dish or a loaf pan.

  • Step 7: Bake at 350 Fahrenheit for 1 hour.

  • Step 8: Combine catsup and corn syrup; brush on meatloaf; bake an additional 15 minutes.

  • Step 9: Garnish with mushroom crown topped with pimiento spirals, if desired.
