  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 2/3 cup apple juice (or orange juice)
  • 2/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 4 cups shredded red cabbage
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 4 teaspoons water

How to Make

  • Step 1: Melt butter in a large skillet, add onion and cook about 3 minutes until tender crisp.

  • Step 2: Add brown sugar, apple/orange juice and vinegar; mix well.

  • Step 3: Add cabbage and mix well to coat the cabbage.

  • Step 4: Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Times may vary, based on how done the cabbage is.

  • Step 5: Make a slurry with the cornstarch and water, when mixed well, add to the cabbage. Let it cook 5 more minutes while the sauce tightens ups.

  • Step 6: Serve!
