Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons oil (vegetable oil)
  • 1 pound stewing beef
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3 medium potatoes
  • 4 carrots
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 whole cabbage

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oil in heavy pot over medium-high heat. Sear meat on all sides (only takes 2-3 minutes), add water, reduce heat, and simmer 2 hours.

  • Step 2: Then chop meat, potatoes, carrots and onion into same size chunks as meat, add to pot and simmer 30 minutes.

  • Step 3: Chop cabbage into larger pieces and simmer an additional 30 minutes.

  • Step 4: Taste and adjust seasonings.
