Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (using a good brand name flour will benefit the end results, a no name flour is not recommended)
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening (vegetable shortening, plain white or butter flavor, both work well)
  • 3/4 cup beer (not flat)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large bowl sift all dry ingredients together.

  • Step 2: Using a pastry cutter cut in shortening until cornmeal consistency, then stir in beer.

  • Step 3: Knead lightly, then gather into a large shaped ball and wrap in plastic wrap.

  • Step 4: Refrigerate for 1 or more hours before forming dough.

  • Step 5: Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Set oven rack to second-lowest position.

  • Step 6: Remove from the fridge and unwrap the dough.

  • Step 7: Pat the dough into about 1 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out with biscuit cutter.

  • Step 8: Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.

  • Step 9: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Step 10: Best served warm.
