Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3/4 cup shortening, soft
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • TOPPING
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cream shortening and brown sugar together. Add egg. Add molasses.

  • Step 2: Sift flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon and ginger together; add to creamed mixture.

  • Step 3: Chill dough overnight.

  • Step 4: Roll in balls the size of a walnut.

  • Step 5: Roll on sugar.

  • Step 6: Place on pan; put 3 drops of water on each ball.

  • Step 7: Bake just until set, but not hard, at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.
