Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 6 to 8 bacon strips, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 medium green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 celery rib, chopped
  • 3 large garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (or to taste, optional)
  • 1 can (15 ounce) tomato sauce
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Melted butter
  • 6 bread buns (hamburger buns)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large skillet, cook the diced bacon until almost crisp; remove to a bowl, leave fat in the skillet.

  • Step 2: To skillet add in onion, bell pepper & celery, cook until softened but not brown. Add the ground beef and garlic along with the cooked bacon, and cook until ground beef is browned, breaking the meat up with a potato masher. Drain off oil if necessary.

  • Step 3: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, tomato sauce, and ketchup. Simmer for about 15 minutes or until mixture begins to thicken. Add salt and pepper; taste and adjust seasonings as desired.

  • Step 4: Brush the bun bottoms with the melted butter and in a separate skillet or on a stove top grill, toast the buns.

  • Step 5: Spoon the beef mixture over bun and top with remaining top half of bun.
