Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 1/2 pounds potatoes (sliced thinly)
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt (for water)
  • 8 to 16 ounces cheddar cheese (grated)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Kosher salt (1 generous pinch)
  • Nutmeg (1 generous pinch)
  • 3 cups milk

How to Make

  • Step 1: Peel and slice potatoes, boil for 15-20 minutes or until tender, drain.

  • Step 2: Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease 9x13 pan.

  • Step 3: To make sauce, melt butter in saucepan over medium heat, stir in flour, salt and nutmeg. Cook until slightly browned. Add milk, a little at a time, whisking continually until thickened. Remove from heat.

  • Step 4: Cover bottom of pan with half the potato slices, half the cheese, and half the sauce. Repeat.

  • Step 5: Bake for about 35 minutes or until done.
