Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 tablespoons oil (olive oil)
  • 1 pound ground turkey (or ground beef)
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh garlic, crushed
  • 3 cans (15 ounces each) pinto beans (or red, black, or a mix, your choice, undrained)
  • 1 can (7 ounce) diced green chiles
  • 1 can (15 ounce) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (Louisiana hot sauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt, to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat olive oil in hot 3-4 qt dutch oven or suitable pot over medium high heat. Crumble ground turkey into oil, and stir, breaking it up clumps. When browned, add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until onion is translucent.

  • Step 2: Add beans (undrained), chiles, tomatoes and spices. Return to boil and reduce heat to simmer.

  • Step 3: Simmer 20 minutes to blend flavors. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed
