Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 tablespoons bacon drippings (or 2 Tablespoons oil w/2 Tablespoons bacon grease)
  • 3/4 cup sweet onion, finely chopped
  • 14 ounces smoked sausage (cut into bite size slices, or cooked Corned Beef)
  • 2 bacon slices, roughly diced
  • 4 cups green cabbage, chopped
  • 2 cups carrots, sliced (peeled, washed, cut into bite sized slices)
  • 2 cups russet potatoes, cubed (peeled, washed,cut into bite sized cubes)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a non stick skillet large enough to hold all ingredients and over medium heat,heat drippings/oil until hot but not smoking.

  • Step 2: Add sausage,bacon,and onions,then cook until onion is soft and meats are slightly browned.

  • Step 3: Then add all vegetables,making sure to combine all ingredients well and sprinkle with salt & pepper(if using other seasonings,add at this point).

  • Step 4: Reduce heat to low and add water,and cover with lid slightly tilted so steam can escape.

  • Step 5: Stir occasionally until vegetables are tender.

  • Step 6: Taste and if needed,adjust seasonings.
