Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup water (70 degrees)
  • 3 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, minced
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted (slightly cooled)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk (slightly warmed, not hot but not cold from the fridge)
  • 3 1/2 cups white bread flour (or all-purpose, but bread flour is better)
  • 1 tablespoon egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon coarse salt

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large bowl sprinkle yeast over 1/4 cup (70°) water. Let stand until foamy (8 minutes). Stir in sugar, 1 teaspoon salt and fresh herbs, butter, whole egg, and milk; add 3 1/4 cups flour and stir to moisten.

  • Step 2: Knead dough on a lightly floured board until elastic and not sticky (around 15 minutes); add flour as needed to prevent sticking.

  • Step 3: Shape into 12 equal-size balls; place in a well-buttered 9 by 13 inch pan.

  • Step 4: Cover and Let dough rise in a warm place until doubled) about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

  • Step 5: Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350°.

  • Step 6: After rising brush rolls with beaten egg, then sprinkle with coarse salt.

  • Step 7: Bake until golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes.
