  • 1 to 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Dash of salt
  • Dash of freshly ground nutmeg

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cream butter and sugar until granules of sugar are dissolved and the mixture is smooth and creamy.

  • Step 2: Add eggs, one at a time, mixing each in well.

  • Step 3: Stir in flour and mix well.

  • Step 4: Stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract.

  • Step 5: Pour into unbaked pie crust and bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Test by inserting the tip of a knife near the center. It will come out clean when the pie is done.

  • Step 6: Cool completely before serving.

  • Step 7: If there is more filling than the pie crust will hold, bake the extra in custard cups or ramekins for a small sweet treat without the crust.
