Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 8 bacon slices (lean)
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 medium potatoes (peeled and cut in 1" cubes, about 3 cups)
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley

How to Make

  • Step 1: Chop bacon.

  • Step 2: In a deep soup kettle, saute bacon, celery & onion over medium heat until onion is golden, about 5 minutes.

  • Step 3: Add potatoes, water and seasonings. Bring to a boil over high heat.

  • Step 4: Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes or until potatoes are tender.

  • Step 5: Mash potatoes slightly, leaving about 1/4 of the cubes whole.

  • Step 6: Remove the bay leaf.

  • Step 7: Add the milk. worcestershire sauce and parsley and bring to just a boil.

  • Step 8: Serve hot.
