Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 packages dry onion soup mix (Liptons)
  • 4 onions, yellow (medium onions, diced)
  • Butter (about 3-4 tablespoons)
  • French bread slices (oven-dried, as many as you need)
  • 1/4 pound Swiss cheese, grated
  • Ground pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: Prepare the onion soup pacs according to directions. (leave hot on top of the stove.

  • Step 2: Heat butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions. Saute until golden brown (8-10 minutes). Add onions to the soup and simmer 10 minutes.

  • Step 3: Season with pepper.

  • Step 4: Pour the soup into 8 individual oven-proof soup crocks.

  • Step 5: Top each with a slice (or two) dry bread slices.

  • Step 6: Sprinkle with Swiss cheese.

  • Step 7: Place under the oven broiler. Broil until the cheese melts (about 3-5 minutes).

  • Step 8: Remove carefully then serve.
