Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2: Lightly grease and flour a 13x9x2 inch baking pan; set aside.
Step 3: In a 3 quart saucepan, melt the butter just until melted.
Step 4: With a wooden spoon, stir in the brown sugar.
Step 5: Add the vanilla and eggs; mix well.
Step 6: Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix until combined.
Step 7: Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts. (The batter will be stiff).
Step 8: Spread the batter into the greased and floured 13x9x2 inch baking pan.
Step 9: Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, or until tooth pick inserted comes out clean.
Step 10: Remove from oven and cool completely before cutting into bars. Store in an airtight container. These freeze very well.
