Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 bacon slices
  • 1/2 cup onion (finely chopped sweet onion)
  • 1 pound sausage, smoked (cut into bite size slices you could use turkey smoked sausage, but I don't think it would taste the same)
  • 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable oil, if needed)
  • 30 ounces pinto beans (two 15 ounce cans or as close as you can get, drain one can)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder,or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder,or to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large skillet over medium heat,fry bacon until almost crisp.

  • Step 2: Place bacon on paper towel to absorb drippings,after bacon is cooled crumble and set aside.

  • Step 3: In remaining bacon "drippings" cook onions until slightly softened,then add smoked sausage add oil at this time if needed and cook until lightly browned.

  • Step 4: Add both cans of beans,seasonings,and crumbled bacon stirring until seasonings are well combined.

  • Step 5: Cover and reduce heat to simmer.

  • Step 6: Cook on simmer for 15 minutes or until beans are slightly tender.
