Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 8 ounce bulk pork sausage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small broccoli head, cut into small florets, lightly steamed for about 2-3 minutes
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup half and half cream or milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper (can use more)
  • Pinch cayenne, optional
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 large Roma tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese 9or can use 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F then set oven rack to lowest position.

  • Step 2: Grease an 11 x 7-inch baking dish.

  • Step 3: Cook the sausage meat with onion in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned; drain fat; transfer to a large bowl, cool slightly then mix in the broccoli florets and 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese; set aside.

  • Step 4: In another bowl combine 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese with ricotta cheese, eggs, light cream, black pepper and cayenne; mix to combine, then season with salt if desired.

  • Step 5: Spoon the sausage mixture into baking dish, then top with the ricotta mixture over the top.

  • Step 6: Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup cheddar cheese or 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese.

  • Step 7: Arrange the tomato slices neatly over the top.

  • Step 8: Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes.

  • Step 9: Uncover and continue baking for another 15 minutes.

  • Step 10: Allow to stand 10-12 minutes before serving.
