Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup rice (uncooked long grain rice, rinsed)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • Water (to total 2 cups with the soy sauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Chicken base, beef base or vegetable/mushroom base (2 tablespoons)
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil

How to Make

  • Step 1: Stir together ingredients in a saucepan or rice cooker until chicken base dissolves. If using rice cooker, operate as usual.

  • Step 2: If cooking on stovetop, bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.

  • Step 3: At the end of cooking time, layer a clean dishtowel between the lid and the pot and let it sit for 10-15 minutes (do this with rice cooker turned off or stove turned off and away from a hot burner). Then remove towel and fluff rice with a fork before serving.
