Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon tamari sauce (or low sodium soy sauce)
  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1/2 cup tahini
  • 1 cup water (plus add more as it cooks if you think the sauce is getting too thick)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Melt butter over low heat, saute onion until translucent (about 5-8 minutes).

  • Step 2: When onion is very close to being done, add the garlic and salt.

  • Step 3: Over the lowest heat, whisk in the flour a little at a time. Cook it for 3-5 minutes, stirring constantly, adding only a drop or two of water if it's getting clumpy.

  • Step 4: Add tahini and whisk for another few minutes, still on the lowest heat setting.

  • Step 5: Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 10 - 15 min over low heat. Adjust seasonings to your taste after it's simmered for at least 5 min.

  • Step 6: Great to use over brown rice, vegetables, etc.
