  • 4 ounces cheddar cheese
  • 4 ounces American cheese
  • 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Extra shredded cheese (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Place the grits, chicken broth, garlic powder and salt and pepper in a saucepan and bring to a boil.

  • Step 2: Cook, stirring, over moderate heat until mixture thickens.

  • Step 3: Take off the heat and stir in chopped or shredded cheeses with the butter until it all melts and incorporates.

  • Step 4: Whisk together the eggs and milk, then quickly whisk that into the grits.

  • Step 5: Pour mixture into a buttered baking dish (square or rectangular) that holds about 6-8 cups.

  • Step 6: Top with more shredded cheese if you like, but it doesn't need it.

  • Step 7: Bake at 350F for 40-50 minutes or until a knife comes out clean and it is set.
