  • 1 cup onion, chopped (I used red)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 12 cups cabbage, coarsely chopped
  • 1 to 1 1/2 pounds smoked Polish sausage (cut into 1-inch pieces I used lite turkey)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a Dutch oven or other heavy pan with lid, sauté onion in butter over low heat until tender.

  • Step 2: Add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

  • Step 3: Gradually add water and vinegar; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.

  • Step 4: Stir in remaining ingredients. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
