Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, or to taste
  • 1 (28 ounce) can chopped tomatoes, undrained (or fresh tomatoes!)
  • 1 pound spaghetti, cooked (or favorite pasta)
  • Salt and herbs, to taste (optional)
  • Shredded parmesan cheese, to serve

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cook pasta according to directions.

  • Step 2: Meanwhile cook bacon in a wide frying pan over medium-high heat, stirring often, just until fat is rendered (3-5 minutes).

  • Step 3: Add onion; cook, stirring often until soft (about 5 minutes).

  • Step 4: Stir in garlic, red pepper flakes, salt, and herbs, and cook for 2 minutes.

  • Step 5: Stir in tomatoes with their liquid. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.

  • Step 6: Gently toss pasta with sauce.

  • Step 7: Serve with topped with shredded parmesan cheese.
