Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil (canola oil)
  • 1 1/2 pounds beef round (steaks, trimmed of all visible fat)
  • 1 teaspoon oil (canola oil)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup sliced yellow onion
  • 1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup diced tomato (canned with juice)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons steak sauce

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Step 2: Place steak between pieces of waxed paper and pound meat on each side with a mallet to ensure tenderness.

  • Step 3: Cut meat into bite-size pieces.

  • Step 4: Combine flour, pepper, and salt; dredge meat in mixture.

  • Step 5: Heat the 1 tablespoon canola oil in a skillet and brown meat; drain and place in a 2-1/2 quart casserole or baking dish.

  • Step 6: Heat the 1 teaspoon canola oil in a skillet and saute garlic, celery and onion for 2 minutes, then add mushrooms. Continue to cook until onions become translucent.

  • Step 7: Add tomatoes with their juice and mix thoroughly.

  • Step 8: Place vegetables on top of meat.

  • Step 9: Combine beef broth and steak sauce; pour over vegetables.

  • Step 10: Cover and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1-1/2 hours or until the meat is tender.
