Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage (links, spicy, pulled out of skins)
  • 1 can (10 ounce) diced tomatoes (with green chilies I use Walmart brand or you can use Ro-Tel)
  • 1 can (14.5 ounce) stewed tomatoes (Mexican style tomatoes, I use Hannaford)
  • 1 can (14.5 ounce) diced tomatoes (Italian style, Hannaford)
  • 2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato paste ( roasted garlic Italian tomato paste)
  • 1 onion, large (chopped)
  • 4 teaspoons fresh garlic, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons dried celery flakes
  • 3 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 3 tablespoons paprika
  • 4 teaspoons chili powder
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 3 tablespoons Jalapeno juice (from jar or can of jalapenos)
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (Frank`s)
  • 6 chicken bouillion cubes (dissolved in 1/2 cup water)
  • 3 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder (Hershey's)
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 2 cans (40 ounces each) red kidney beans (I used dark)
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal
  • 3 tablespoons water
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Brown ground beef and sausage (removed from casings) in frying pan. When cooked through, put in crock pot, draining off grease.

  • Step 2: To the frying pan, add onion, garlic, 1 can of Mexican tomatoes, and cook on medium heat, until onions are done, about 10 minutes.

  • Step 3: Add all other tomatoes, tomato paste, cumin, chili powder, paprika, bay leaves, celery flakes, jalapeno juice, Frank's Red Hot sauce, and cook for 1/2 hour on medium heat.

  • Step 4: Add bouillon dissolved in water, cocoa and sugar. Stir well, then add kidney beans.

  • Step 5: Cook on high for 8 hours in crock pot.

  • Step 6: About 20 minutes before ready to eat, stir together the flour and cornmeal.

  • Step 7: Add hot water and mix well. Stir into chili mixture, and cook for 20 minutes.

  • Step 8: Pull out bay leaves before serving.

  • Step 9: Serve hot.
