Step 1: Dissolve yeast in warm water.
Step 2: In large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar.
Step 3: Cut shortening into dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse meal.
Step 4: Add buttermilk and yeast mixture. Knead 3-5 minutes. Let dough rest 10 minutes.
Step 5: Roll 1/2" thick and cut into biscuits. Place on greased cookie sheet. Allow to rise 15 minutes.
Step 6: Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden.
