Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 5 bratwursts
  • 1cup lager beer
  • 12 baby carrots, steamed until just tender
  • 12 small potatoes, cooked until just tender
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 medium cooking onion, cut into 8 wedges
  • 2 cups wine cured sauerkraut, tightly squeezed
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar or brown sugar splenda
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon hot paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: Pre- cook your potatoes and carrots until they are just tender

  • Step 2: Put your brats in a skillet, prick them a few time, pour in the beer and simmer until the beer has evaporated.

  • Step 3: While you are cooking the brats enjoy the left over beer

  • Step 4: Finish browning the brats, place them in an oven proof dish large enough to accomodate all the ingredients

  • Step 5: Add 1 tablespoon of oil to the skillet, medium heat, saute the onions until golden.

  • Step 6: Add kraut, chili flakes, brown sugar, paprika, season with salt and pepper. Mix well scrapping the brown bits from the bottom of the skillet

  • Step 7: Your kraut mixture should now be golden in colour

  • Step 8: Add your potatoes and carrots to the brats, cover with the kraut mixture, seal with foil

  • Step 9: Bake in 350 oven for 40 minutes Uncover and serve
