The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 cup mashed potatoes (mashed with milk and butter)
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Oil for deep-fat frying
  • Confectioners sugar (for dusting)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oil in an electric skillet or deep-fat fryer to 375 degrees.

  • Step 2: In a large bowl combine the mashed potatoes with sugar, egg, sour cream and vanilla. In another bowl combine the flour with next 4 dry ingredients; using a wooden spoon stir in potato mixture.

  • Step 3: Drop batter by heaping teaspoonfuls a few at a time into hot oil. Fry until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels; coat in confectioners sugar while warm.
