  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 celery ribs, minced
  • 2 tablespoons yellow onion, chopped
  • 8 ounces chopped cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 ounces chopped mushrooms
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Garlic powder to taste
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded (or Monterey jack cheese, shredded)
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oven to 350 degrees.

  • Step 2: Brown the hamburger, celery and onion in a very large nonstick skillet. Drain the fat.

  • Step 3: Add the cabbage and butter. Cook until the cabbage starts to wilt.

  • Step 4: Add the mushrooms and cook until the cabbage and mushrooms are very soft and start to brown slightly. Season with pepper, salt and garlic powder to taste.

  • Step 5: Add the broth and cream. Bring to boil and cook on med-high, stirring occasionally, until reduced and thickened. Watch closely so it doesn't boil over or evaporate completely.

  • Step 6: Let cool slightly. Stir in the cheese, then the beaten eggs.

  • Step 7: Pour into a greased 10-inch pie plate or casserole. Bake at 350º for 25-30 minutes until set.
