Step 1: Heat 2 tablespoons oil or butter. Add onions & mushrooms on medium heat, cover, and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Step 2: Cook ground beef and garlic over medium-high heat until cooked through, about 10 minutes. Drain.
Step 3: Add the vegetables back to skillet with cream of mushroom soup and milk; Simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt and pepper.
