Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • FOR CHOCOLATE CAKE
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened baking cocoa (I've used store brands, and they've worked just fine)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted, or 1/2 cup vegetable oil I used the oil)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup water (boiling water)
  • CHOCOLATE FROSTING
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and lightly grease and flour 2 9 inch round cake pans ( I used 8 inch pans ).

  • Step 2: In a large bowl stir together sugar,flour,cocoa,baking powder, baking soda and salt.

  • Step 3: Add eggs, milk, butter, and vanilla; beat on medium speed of mixer for 2 minutes.

  • Step 4: Stir in boiling water( batter will be thin )and pore into prepared pans.

  • Step 5: Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

  • Step 6: Cool for 10 minutes,remove from pans and finish cooling on wire rack.

  • Step 7: Chocolate Frosting: Melt the butter, and stir in cocoa.

  • Step 8: Alternately add powdered sugar and milk,beating to spreading consistency.

  • Step 9: Add small additional milk if needed.

  • Step 10: Stir in vanilla.

  • Step 11: Then frost your cooled cake.
