Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 baguette, cut into slices on a diagonal (approximately 12-15 slices)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, smashed
  • 2 tomatoes, cut in half
  • 1/4 basil leaves, loose packed (less if you don't want a strong flavor)
  • Salt and pepper
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Garlic Basil Oil ... Smash the garlic clove with the flat side of a knife or the palm of your hand; just enough so you can peel off the skin, but the clove is still in one piece. Add the oil, garlic, and basil to a small pot and simmer on low heat for 7-10 minutes. Remove the basil and garlic and set to the side to cool. NOTE: You can also purchase garlic oil and in some stores, a garlic basil oil. But, it is easy to make your own and less inexpensive.

  • Step 2: Baguette ... Lightly brush the top of the baguette slices with the cooled garlic basil oil and bake in a 400 degree oven (middle shelf) until golden brown. I prefer to use a grill pan or outdoor grill if possible, but not necessary.

  • Step 3: Tomato ... When the baguette slices come out of the oven, rub the top with the cut side of the tomato (make sure to rub it well), then season lightly with salt and pepper. After you rub 2-3 slices, you can cut a thin slice of the tomato off and continue to rub. When the warm bread hits the tomato, its creates this wonderful flavor on the bread without having a sauce or a topping.

  • Step 4: ENJOY! Serve warm.
