Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons corn syrup
  • Salt, pinch
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla (rum, Kahlua or other flavored liquor)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Melt chocolate and butter very slowly in a double boiler or in the microwave, stirring frequently until combined.

  • Step 2: In the meantime, heat water to boiling in the small, heavy saucepan.

  • Step 3: When the butter and chocolate melt, stir the mixture into the boiling water.

  • Step 4: Add sugar, corn syrup and salt, and mix until smooth.

  • Step 5: Turn the heat up and stir until mixture starts to boil, adjusting the heat so that sauce is just at the boiling point, stirring occasionally. Allow sauce to boil for 9 minutes.

  • Step 6: Remove from heat and cool for 15 minutes.

  • Step 7: Stir in the vanilla (or the liquor flavoring of your choice), and serve warm over your favorite ice cream or dessert.
