Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup grits
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter (or margarine)
  • 1/4 cup half and half
  • 4 ounces cheddar cheese (American, Cheddar, or Havarti)

How to Make

  • Step 1: If using stone ground grits, place them in a bowl and cover with water, stir.

  • Step 2: Pour off water and light bran which has floated to the top.

  • Step 3: Place grits in sauce pot. Add water, salt, and margarine. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low.

  • Step 4: Cook, covered, for 20-30 minutes, or until creamy.

  • Step 5: Add Half and Half and cheese, and stir until cheese melts. Serve hot.
