Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 tablespoon oil (olive oil)
  • 1 onion (sweet onion)
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 1/2 pounds Italian sausage
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup pasta sauce (optional)
  • 4 bread buns (6 inches long or 2 twelve inch long rolls)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a skillet that can be placed in the oven, add olive oil on medium heat on stove top.

  • Step 2: Clean, remove seeds and core of pepper, cut into bite sided pieces or strips (your choice). Cut the onion the same way.

  • Step 3: Saute onions for about 10 minutes until tender.

  • Step 4: Add bell pepper to skillet and cook and additional 10 minutes until tender.

  • Step 5: Remove peppers and onions from skillet and set aside. Also pre-heat the oven at 375 degrees F.

  • Step 6: Add sausage to skillet and brown on medium high heat on all sides for about 10 minutes.

  • Step 7: Place skillet in oven or 15 minutes or until sausage is cooked through.

  • Step 8: Remove skillet from oven, (I place a hot mitt on the handle backwards to remind me that the skillet is HOT).

  • Step 9: Drain fat from skillet and slice up sausage.

  • Step 10: Add sausage to skillet along with peppers, onions and cheese and cook on medium for 2-3 minutes to melt cheese and mix well. (If adding spaghetti sauce to the skillet, cook the mixture until hot).

  • Step 11: Fill rolls and enjoy! Yummy!
