Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 bread loaf (large crusty loaf, day old, cut into 1 inch thick slices)
  • 1 container (250 gram) cream cheese (strawberry flavor)
  • 1/4 cup strawberry jam
  • 12 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Icing sugar
  • Maple syrup

How to Make

  • Step 1: Make a pocket in each bread slice by cutting in half horizontally, leaving about 1 inch uncut.

  • Step 2: Combine cream cheese and jam.

  • Step 3: Spread about 2 tablespoons of the mixture into each bread pocket.

  • Step 4: Place slices in two 9 inch x 13 inch pans.

  • Step 5: Whisk together eggs, milk, and almond and vanilla extracts.

  • Step 6: Pour an equal amount of egg mixture into each pan.

  • Step 7: Turn slices over, cover and refrigerate overnight.

  • Step 8: Spray a 10 inch by 15 inch baking pan with cooking spray.

  • Step 9: Place bread slices in pan; bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes; turn slices over and bake until golden brown, about 10 minutes longer.

  • Step 10: Sift icing sugar over French toast and sprinkle with maple syrup.
