Step 1: Season pork chops on both sides with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
Step 2: Heat butter or oil in an cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Brown both sides of pork chops with the onion in a skillet. Add garlic after first side of chops are browned (do not allow the garlic to become dark, the pork chops do not need to be cooked through they will be finish cooking in the oven).
Step 3: Pour off any excess butter after pork chops are browned.
Step 4: Combine soup, evaporated milk and water. Pour mixture around pork chops.
Step 5: Bake in a preheated 350 degrees F oven for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally and seasoning with more salt and pepper as needed --- instead of baking the pork chops in the oven they can be finished on the stove top cooking about 45 minutes.
