How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat grill.

  • Step 2: Slice off stem end of each fig and then cut a slit in the side of each fig and open the fig like a book.

  • Step 3: Sprinkle the mozzarella slices with nutmeg. Push a piece of cheese inside each fig and squeeze opening closed as tightly as you can.

  • Step 4: Lay each filled fig crosswise on a short side of a prosciutto slice and roll up. Secure with toothpick.

  • Step 5: Brush the filled prosciutto with olive oil and season with pepper.

  • Step 6: Grill, turning occasionally with tongs, moving them around to keep from burning (5 minutes). They are done with the prosciutto is crispy and cheese has started to melt.

  • Step 7: Remove toothpicks and place 2 figs per person on small dishes. Squeeze lemon juice on top and serve with bread wedges.
